Brew City Opera is honored to host renowned tenor Scott Ramsay for the first in our masterclass/recital series.

On November 20th, Scott will present a masterclass with three local singers ranging from undergraduate to emerging professional. 

On November 22nd, Scott will join these singers in a joint recital. 

The students will present music coached by Mr. Ramsay, and Mr. Ramsay will also perform selections of his choosing.

About Scott

Praised by Mark Swed of the LA Times for his “stentorian, strong tenor”, Scott Ramsay is highly regarded by Opera companies and Symphony Orchestras across North America and abroad. Following his debut in Verdi’s Requiem, K. Winters of the Toronto Globe & Mail said; “His Ingemisco and Hostias had a sweetness and modest purity reminiscent of vintage Bjoerling and Simoneau.
 
Operatic highlights include Wilhelm Arndt in Korngold’s Der Ring des Polykrates, Edgardo/Lucia di 
Lammermoor
, Mark/The Midsummer Marriage, Mitch/A Streetcar Named Desire and the Painter/Sailor in Lulu all at Lyric Opera of Chicago; Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at Michigan Opera Theater; Lenski/Eugene Onegin at Madison Opera; Tamino/Die Zauberflöte and Ferrando/Così fan tutte and Jupiter/Semele at Arizona Opera, Riccardo/Un Ballo in Maschera with the Boston Youth Symphony, Narraboth/Salome with the Detroit Symphony and Wilhelm Dantine in Glass’ A Perfect American at Chicago Opera Theater & Long Beach Opera.  
 
Symphonic engagements include Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Tippett’s A Child of Our Time (Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall and Ravinia); Verdi’s Requiem (Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, Greenville Symphony, Berkshire Choral Festival, Louisville Orchestra); Henze’s Kammermusik 1958 (St. Louis Symphony); Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (American Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, Pacific Symphony, West Virginia Symphony) and Handel’s Messiah (Nashville Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Charleston Symphony)  
 
Mr. Ramsay is a member of the voice faculty of DePaul University School of Music in Chicago and serves as Artistic Director of Musica nelle Marche, a summer educational opera festival in Urbino, Italy.
